Representatives of FAO’s European and Central Asian member countries are holding a conference in Hungary
On May 4-5, 2023, Hungary will host the Informal Regional Consultation of the UN’s largest specialized organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), for the eighth time, which will be attended by ambassadors, leaders and experts from the countries of the European and Central Asian regions, as well as the representatives of business and civil society.
The event, which was held with the participation of approximately 47 delegates, was opened by Deputy State Secretary Dr. Oszkár Ökrös, delivering the greetings of Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture. In his speech, he described the results of the cooperation between FAO and Hungary, such as the financing of agricultural projects in the Central Asian region, and the training project for agricultural consultants in Uganda aimed at keeping the population in place. He highlighted the successful FAO Hungarian scholarship program, under which 370 young people from 45 developing countries have been able to continue their master’s studies at Hungarian agricultural universities thanks to funding from the Hungarian government. Many European and Central Asian countries were represented at a high level at the event.
