Poor fruit yields and price increases are expected due to the frost
According to preliminary estimates of FruitVeB and ÉKASZ (Interprofessional Organization and Product Council for Northeast Hungary), this year’s fruit crop could be around 500,000 tonnes, due to frost damage, while farmers tend to harvest 800-900,000 tonnes of fruit in an average year – Apáti Ferenc told MTI.
The vice-president of the FruitVeB Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization explained that due to the frost damages experienced a demand market can be expected throughout Europe, with higher than average fruit prices in the major fruit-producing countries. (MTI)
