Tobacco producers are inspected by NAV
From the middle of summer, with the start of the tobacco harvest, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) will once again inspect the producers.

NAV informed MTI on Saturday that more than 80 percent of the country’s tobacco-producing area is located in the counties of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar. During this period, NAV focuses on hundreds of producers in the two counties, but the continuous control covers the entire country. During harvests, preventing tobacco leaves from being sold on the black market is given priority, and producers are checked by the authorities on the basis of risk analyzes or on a random basis.
In addition to the control of road transport, the uniformed officers also carry out site inspections, and drones are also deployed to monitor production areas
It was written that as soon as the harvesting of tobacco leaves began, the tax inspectors caught individuals who were illegally picking tobacco in the fields. The plant parts were dried in their attics and storage rooms and then processed. The “illegal collectors” – in addition to the excise procedure and paying a fine of millions – must also count on a sanction for theft, they indicated.
