The Watermelon Association initiates the creating of a government fund

The Hungarian Watermelon Association turns to the government for help. They want to achieve the creation of a government fund, that would pay the producers the price immediately, to avoid waiting 30-40 days to their money.

The members of the association has also decided to initiate a protected geographical indication for the melon of Békés county, which would sign the extra quality yield on the basis of strict quality parameters. They hope, that the geographical indication will be incentive for farmers to increase the level of production, also it would mean advertising and would draw the attention to Hungarian melon – reports Origo.
