A third of students believe they will find a job easily
Only a fifth of students consider Hungarian education to be of European standard, meaning that the majority are those who have a negative opinion, according to the K&H Youth Index, which presents the latest results of a representative survey. These also show that 33 percent of students are optimistic about their job prospects.
According to the students, the standard of the Hungarian education system could be improved, and this is also evident from the latest K&H Youth Index, which presents the opinions of 19-29 year-olds attending higher education.
A downward trend is emerging
53 percent of students studying in higher education who were surveyed gave a negative answer to the question of whether the Hungarian education system is of European standard, meaning that they would like to see a higher level. Only 20 percent of them, i.e. every fifth student, consider the current education system to be adequate in terms of European standards. The proportion of students expressing a favorable opinion has varied both better and worse over the survey’s more than decade-long history: between 2014 and 2018, their proportion was above 30 percent in several quarters, with a peak of 43 percent in the second quarter of 2014. However, there were also instances of single-digit results, namely in mid-2018 and in the third quarter of 2024.
In the longer term, it is also clear that the proportion of students who consider education to be of a sufficiently high standard is showing a decreasing trend. Since 2012, their proportion has been above 21 percent on average, while in the past five years, since the beginning of 2020, it has been just over 16 percent.
