The processing sales price of cut pork rose
According to the KSH data, Hungary’s live pig export decreased by 16 percent (32 thousand tons) in January-November 2023 compared to the amount in January-November 2022. The main partners were Romania, Austria and Slovakia. Imports of live pigs increased by 16 percent to 70,000 tons, Slovakia, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic being the largest suppliers.

The quantity of pork sold on the international market decreased by almost 9 percent (135 thousand tons), while its value increased by 9 percent during the observed period. Most of the pork was shipped to Romania, Croatia and Italy. The volume of pork imports decreased by 12 percent (130,000 tons), and its value was 19 percent higher. More than two-thirds of the pork came from Germany, Spain, Poland and Austria. According to the data of the AKI PÁIR, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs without VAT and transport costs was 805 forints/kilogram of carcass hot weight in January 2024, which did not change significantly compared to the average price a year earlier. The processing sales price of cut pork (loin, ribs, thigh) was 5.6 percent higher in January 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. According to KSH data, the consumer price of short loin increased by 4 percent and pork leg by 17 percent at the same time.
