The Danish Government abolishes the tax on fat
The Danish government wants to remove the fat tax, that was introduced a year ago – the Danish Ministry of Taxation announced on Saturday.
Denmark was the world first country that imposed a tax on foods containing fatty acids. However, the authorities announced that the new tax was not too expensive and did not contribute to the change in the eating habits of the Danes.
As the result of the new tax, the consumer prices have increased, as well as the administrative costs of producers, and it also endangered jobs. In addition, many Danish did their shopping abroad. For these reasons, the proposed sugar tax will neither be introduced. (Index, MTI)
