Dachser strengthens its presence in North Africa with a new logistics investment – the Maghreb region could become the new gateway to Europe
Industry and retail are facing a strategic realignment: shorter, more predictable and sustainable supply chains are bringing new markets into the spotlight. According to Dachser, these include the Maghreb region, where Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey are becoming increasingly important logistics hubs. The German-based logistics provider has strengthened its presence in North Africa in recent years with significant infrastructure and digital developments.
Tanger Med: the new hub for European and African trade
The key to the region’s logistics development is the port of Tanger Med, which is now connected to more than 186 international ports at a strategic point on the Strait of Gibraltar. The facility can handle more than nine million containers per year and is home to more than 900 industrial companies from the automotive industry to aerospace.
“Tanger Med started as a gateway to Europe – now it has also become a gateway to Africa,” said M’hamed Chraibi, Regional Managing Director of Dachser Maghreb and Turkey.
Strong network, digital solutions
Dachser has been operating in Morocco since 1984 and opened its own warehouse in the Tanger Med Hub in 2021, where 7,000 pallet spaces are available to customers. The company aims to ensure efficient, digitalized processes: all logistics operations at the Tanger Med site are 100 percent digitalized, and customs clearance is supported by AEO certification.
“Through digitalization and standardized processes, we ensure fast, transparent and secure transportation for our customers,”
Chraibi emphasized.
New logistics center by 2026
As part of Dachser’s long-term growth plans, a new 75,000 m² logistics center is being built in Tanger Automotive City, which will be completed by June 2026. The facility, located near the industrial park, will have a 20,000 m² warehouse and its own bonded warehouse, and will be the first privately owned logistics building in Morocco to be certified as sustainable. The terminal, which will be built with solar panels, a water recovery system and environmentally friendly materials, will connect road, air and sea freight businesses, creating a single service chain.
From Europe to Africa in one system
Dachser’s network operates daily scheduled shipments between Strasbourg and Morocco, and transports to Tunisia to the ports of Radès and Bennane. Digital shipment tracking, joint enterprise systems (Domino, Othello) and an experienced local team ensure that the company guarantees uniform quality and service standards outside the EU.
Investing in the future
Serving the growing needs of the industries present in the region – automotive, textiles, electronics, aerospace and consumer goods – Dachser aims to integrate the Maghreb region even more closely into European supply chains.
“The logistics of the future is built here: where Europe, North Africa and the Middle East meet”
– said Alexander Tonn, Chief Operating Officer of Dachser Road Logistics.
Dachser currently operates in 43 countries, at 433 locations, with more than 37,000 employees, and achieved sales of 8 billion euros in 2024. The company has been present in Hungary since 1999, under the name Dachser Hungary Kft., with headquarters in Pilisvörösvár and 7 domestic locations.
