The price of bone-in chicken breast and chicken breast fillet also decreased significantly
According to KSH data, Hungary’s poultry meat exports increased by 2.4 percent to 142 thousand tons in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Within this, chicken meat exports decreased by 1.5 percent to 96 thousand tons, while turkey meat increased by 21 percent to 15 thousand tons. The largest target markets for poultry meat continued to be Romania and Bulgaria.

Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 21 percent to 47 thousand tons in the observed period. Within this, chicken meat imports fell by 22 percent to 36 thousand tons, while turkey meat imports increased by 29 percent to 3.5 thousand tons. Most poultry meat came from Poland. According to the AKI slaughter statistics, 549.3 thousand tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in the first nine months of 2024, 9.8 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. Of this, broiler chicken accounted for 396.6 thousand tons (+6.5 percent), and broiler turkey 51.7 thousand tons (–1.0 percent).
According to the European Commission, the EU average price of a whole chicken was 270 euros/100 kilograms in the first forty-five weeks of 2024, which exceeded the previous year by 1 percent.
According to the AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of broiler chicken in Hungary decreased by 15.3 percent to 414.6 forints/kilogram, and that of broiler turkey by 12.5 percent to 589.9 forints/kilogram in the first forty-five weeks of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was 1759.8 HUF/kilogram (–9.0 percent), chicken breast with bones was 1167.4 HUF/kilogram (–8.7 percent), and chicken breast (total) was 1729.3 HUF/kilogram (–9.2 percent) in the observed period.
