The price of chicken breast fillets decreased by 19 percent
Based on data from the KSH, Hungary’s poultry meat exports increased by 2 percent to 200,000 tons between January and November 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. Within this, the export of chicken increased by 12 percent to 134,000 tons, while that of turkey decreased by 33 percent to 18,000 tons.
The largest target markets for poultry meat were Romania (27 thousand tons), Germany (20 thousand tons), Bulgaria (18 thousand tons), Austria (17 thousand tons) and France (15 thousand tons). Hungary’s poultry meat imports increased by 7 percent to 80,000 tons in the observed period. Within this, the delivery of chicken meat increased by 5 percent to approximately 59,000 tons, and that of turkey meat by 23 percent to 4,000 tons. Most poultry meat came from Poland (32 thousand tons) and Romania (20 thousand tons).
Based on the slaughter statistics data of the AKI, 684.6 thousand tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in 2023, 7.9 percent more than the previous year. Of this, slaughter chickens accounted for 500.3 thousand tons (+9.1 percent), and slaughter turkeys for 73.1 thousand tons (-11.7 percent).
According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chickens in Hungary decreased by 19.4 percent to HUF 411.0/kg, and that of slaughter turkeys by 12.0 percent to HUF 597.5/kg in the first five weeks of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. Chicken breast fillet was HUF 1,692.3/kilogram (-19.1 percent), and bone-in chicken breast was HUF 1,035.5/kilogram (-23.8 percent) at the same time. The price of chicken breast (in total) was 1,657.8 forints/kilogram (-19.6 percent), and the price of chicken legs was 852.5 forints/kilogram (-7.6 percent) in the first five weeks compared to the same period in 2023.
