The wholesale price of lemons decreased by 5 percent
According to the forecast of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the EU lemon harvest may increase by 16 percent to 1.68 million tons in 2023/2024. in the economic year (October-September) compared to the previous season.
Based on the projection of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), the lemon harvest in Spain – after the significant loss of the previous season – is expected to be around 1.2 million tons, which could be a new record: it would represent a 28 percent increase in 2022/2023. compared to the annual season. According to the USDA, a 10 percent decrease in Italy and a similar amount to the previous season in Greece are expected in the period under review.

According to AKI PÁIR data, the wholesale price of lemons on the Budapest Wholesale Market was 11 percent higher (HUF 690/kilogram) in 2023 compared to a year earlier. The wholesale price of lemons in the first three weeks of 2024 decreased by 5 percent to HUF 649/kilogram compared to the same period of 2023. The wholesale price of lime (green lemon) was 2 percent lower (HUF 1,321/kilogram) in 2023 than a year earlier, and in the first three weeks of 2024 it was 8 percent (HUF 1,330/kilogram) lower than the year before.
