The Asian country is severely affected by African swine fever, a quarter of the herd has been killed or had to be slaughtered, leading to a surge in pork prices, which is far the most popular meat in China, according to CNBC.
UK pork exporters expect high demand in Asian countries. The Beijing authorities announced earlier this week that their efforts to stabilize prices had been successful.
China has added strategic frozen pork reserves, and concluded rapid trade agreements to increase the level of imports of pigmeat. (origo)
