History of BiB packaging
Bag in box packaging was patented and first used by Thomas William Carlyon Angove from South Australia. It was intended to replace large (2-5 litre) glass bottles. The original patent described a flexible plastic bag, which allows no air to enter, inside a paper box. The new packaging prevented oxidation, allowed more efficient use of storage space and offered a higher level of protection from physical damage. It first appeared in one gallon size in November 1965. ANGOVE boxes had disappeared from the market by 1971, but later returned when they were fitted with a tap.
