Vienna Airport achieved the second highest traffic in its history last year
Last year, Vienna Airport achieved the second highest traffic in its history with a 24.7 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year, handling 29.5 million passengers, Julian Jäger, the airport’s operator, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, announced on Thursday.
According to the CEO, passenger traffic will exceed 30 million this year. At the press conference on the annual results, he stated that the airport “succeeded in reaching the optimal travel height”. The cautious estimate of this year’s turnover is primarily attributable to geopolitical risks. The escalation of the situation in the Middle East may drive up oil prices, thus kerosene prices and, with it, also the price of plane tickets.
According to him, the demand for holiday travel was particularly high in 2023. The segment’s traffic picked up much more strongly than that of business travel, where the consequences of the pandemic are still being felt.
Last year’s leading destinations were Antalya, Mallorca, Barcelona, Bangkok, New York and Taipei, while Germany, Spain and Italy lead the list in terms of countries.
