Poultry feeds accounted for nearly half of last year’s feed production

In Hungary, mixing plants produced 3.8 million tons of farm animal feed mixtures in 2024, 4.1 percent more than the previous year. Poultry feeds accounted for 48.3 percent (1.84 million tons) of the mixed feed produced. Pig feed accounted for 1.391 million tons, and cattle feeds for 471.9 thousand tons of the 2024 production (Figure 1).

The amount of broiler feed produced increased by 5.1, while duck feed production increased by 10 percent in 2024. Egg feed production decreased by 3.5 percent, goose feed by 16.8, and turkey feed by 10.7 percent compared to the previous year’s production. Pig feed production increased by 10.3 percent and cattle feed by 2.3 percent compared to 2023. 49.1 percent of poultry feed was produced by mixtures for broilers (901 thousand tons), 19.4 percent (356 thousand tons) by egg feeds (Figure 2). Duck feeds accounted for 13.6 percent of poultry feed, goose feeds for 4.6 percent, and turkey and other poultry feeds for 13.3 percent. Pig feeds accounted for 36.6 percent and cattle feeds for 12.4 percent of total production in 2024 (Figure 3). Feeds for sheep and other ruminants accounted for only 0.8 percent of total production. The combined amount of fish feed and other feeds (horse, rabbit, game, etc.) was 1.9 percent, or 70 thousand tons.
