Seasonal work in Balaton: good pay, hard work
As summer begins, hotels and eateries around Lake Balaton in Hungary are not only opening their doors to tourists but also offering numerous job opportunities, particularly for chefs and kitchen assistants. These jobs offer competitive wages—chefs can earn between 2,500 and 3,500 HUF per hour, while kitchen helpers make between 2,000 and 3,000 HUF per hour. Many employers also provide accommodation and meals, significantly reducing workers’ expenses.
Despite the good pay, the work is physically and mentally demanding, with 10-12 hour shifts and only one or two days off per week. The high pay and benefits make these jobs attractive, but the intense work environment and long hours mean that potential employees must carefully consider these opportunities. Additionally, these positions must compete not only within Hungary but also with similar jobs abroad, such as in Austria, making them highly sought after yet challenging roles.
