The 2020 Grüne Woche broke many records
Internationale Grüne Woche took place in Berlin between 17 and 26 January 2020.
This year’s trade fair broke many records: on 129,000m² more than 1,800 exhibitors from72 countries showcased their products and services to more than 400,000 visitors. This year Russia had the biggest exhibition space and the Netherlands was present for the 68th time – they didn’t miss a single Grüne Woche since 1953.
The main theme of the trade fair was sustainability, preserving natural resources and green production methods. There were about 2,000 participants at the 12th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) between 16 and 18 January. The most important event here was the 12th summit of the Ministers of Agriculture, where the representatives of important organisations such as the European Commission, FAO, the World Bank and WTO were also present.
Grüne Woche’s special partner was Croatia, president of the European Union since 1 January 2020. This can have a really beneficial effect on the country’s agri-food business, as last year’s partner country Finland saw its food export soar by 48 percent in the 5 months following the trade fair. Together with the German presidency of the EU that will start in July 2020, Croatia is dedicated to pursue an agricultural policy that focuses on the interests of farmers.
At the trade show SMEs sensed increased interest from the retail and HoReCa sectors for regional products. Visitors were spending happily as they left EUR 52 million at Grüne Woche. //
