European Union produces 88 million tons of food waste a year
The European Union produces 88 million tons of food waste a year, in the value of nearly EUR 143 billion – reported the FUSIONS project, in which the Hungarian Food Bank Association also takes part. Households are responsible for the majority of this, 47 million tons. Consumers, retailers and the hospitality sector together produce 70 percent of the EU’s food waste. The UN intends to cut down on food waste by 50 percent until 2030.
