In the past 12 months, customers have ordered more than 8.5 million pieces of bread and pastries on Kifli.hu, which has increased the category turnover by 25 percent compared to last year – according to the online supermarket’s summary prepared on the occasion of the Bread Festival. More and more people are choosing natural sourdough, artisanal products: semi-brown, potato, whole grain and rye breads now account for almost half of sales, while nostalgic croissants and other classics continue to enjoy unwavering popularity.

In the past 12 months, more than 8.5 million pieces of bread and pastries have found their home on Kifli.hu, which represents a 25 percent increase in the category turnover compared to the previous year. It is of utmost importance for the online supermarket that its customers have access to products from domestic bakeries. The fresh bakery products are 100 percent sourced from Hungarian suppliers, and domestic products account for approximately 85 percent of the total assortment. Among the most popular bakery products, natural sourdough breads, as well as classics such as half-brown bread, potato bread or nostalgic croissants, occupy a prominent place.

The online supermarket works with local artisan bakeries, so its offer is not only wide but also unique: many products are available exclusively through Kifli.hu. Their largest partners include renowned bakeries such as JÓkenyér, Panificio il Basilico (with Szabival a pékkel), Marmorstein, Brót by Villa Bagatelle, Három Tarka Macska and Freyja.

Artisanal and sourdough products also play a prominent role in bread and bakery sales, accounting for nearly 50 percent of sales in the category. Health-conscious choices – such as wholemeal, rye or organic breads – are also increasingly popular among customers.

Returning customers order baked goods on average every 8–10 days, and seasonal peaks are clearly visible: demand for cakes and specialty breads increases during the Christmas period, for braided cakes at Easter, and for fresh baked goods in September when school starts.

The highlight of the Hungarian artisanal bakery industry and “sourdough community” is the Bread Festival and the Bread Soul Festival, which will be held on August 20, 2025 in the Szentendre Open-Air Museum. The festival focuses on the work of artisan bakers, the diversity of sourdough breads and traditional baking techniques, accompanied by professional workshops, panel discussions and family programs. One of the main sponsors of the event is Kifli.hu at its stand, where visitors can taste special refreshments and seasonal producer delicacies.
