Mars To Allocate $85m For New Philanthropic Fund
Candy and snack giant Mars, Incorporated has introduced its Mars Impact Fund, committing an initial allocation of $85 million (€73.3 million) from 2025 to 2027.
The enterprise level fund is aimed at supporting sustainability and community efforts.
In addition to the $85 million (€73.3 million), Mars has pledged to allocate an annual sum of €50 million (€43.1 million) beginning in 2028.
Andy Pharoah, vice president of corporate affairs and sustainability, said, “The Mars Impact Fund builds on decades of partnership and investment in the communities where we operate, strengthening and scaling the work already underway.
“It is designed to complement our broader impact agenda to benefit people, pets, and the planet and help us deepen relationships with organisations working to create lasting impact.”
Focus Areas
Mars aims to offer long-term support to communities and agricultural workers.
The fund is also intended to sustain scientific developments in the areas of food, agriculture and pet care.
To strengthen animal welfare standards, the fund will provide support and veterinary access to low-income communities.
The community focus also enables Mars to quickly respond to local agricultural challenges.
Michelle Grogg, executive director of Mars Impact Fund, commented, “Change starts with listening, learning and working alongside the communities we serve.”
Grant Recipients
The Mars Impact Fund will provide funding for Save the Children and Humane World for Animals, ESM Magazine reports.
The company committed $3 million (€2.6 million) to Save the Children, focussing on the initiative’s programmes of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) and projects in the Indonesian cocoa-sector.
Janti Soeripto, president and CEO of Save the Children US, said, “As we enter this next phase of our collaboration in Indonesia, the Mars Impact Fund will help us reach 115 villages over the next three years.”
Humane World for Animals will receive $726,000 to support veterinary care across India and Mexico.
Kitty Block, president and CEO of Humane World for Animals, said, “What excites me about our partnership with Mars is that together we’re removing one of the biggest barriers to better health and welfare outcomes for companion animals: access to quality veterinary care.”
Grogg added, “Through the Mars Impact Fund, we’re partnering with organisations that bring deep expertise and local insight so that, together, we can expand opportunity, strengthen resilience, and improve lives for people and pets around the world.”
