Retail turnover decreased by 8.3%
In June, according to raw data, the volume of retail trade decreased by 7.8%, close to expectations, and by 8.3% when adjusted for calendar effects, significantly easing compared to the double-digit declines shown in the previous months. Sales revenue rose by 9.9% to HUF 1,560 billion due to high inflation. Compared to the previous month, retail sales increased by 0.7%. In the first six months, the volume of retail trade decreased by 10.3%.
In food and food-type mixed retail stores, turnover decreased by 4.8%, in non-food retail stores by 4.3%, and in fuel retail by 24.2%, the sales volume adjusted for the calendar effect . It is favorable that without fuel traffic, the decline in traffic was only 4.7%. However, the decrease in fuel turnover can significantly reduce the import of crude oil and oil products, contributing to the improvement of the external balance. The volume of sales increased by 4% in drug, medical product and perfume stores, compared to 5.3% in used goods stores, 0.1% in textile, clothing and footwear stores, , by 2.9% in other industrial goods stores, by 10.8-11.6% in mixed industrial goods and furniture and technical goods stores. The volume of mail order and internet retail, covering a wide range of goods and accounting for 7.7% of the retail turnover, decreased by 4.5%. Compared to the average of 2015, the retail turnover increased by 25.5% and compared to 2010 by 38%.
