Tesco gives 57 million forints to projects supporting the future of local youth and communities
Tesco is once again providing 57 million forints to support the young generation in the third round of the “Start for the Future” application program. The initiative primarily supports local community projects focusing on those under 25, and is accepting applications until November 7. In the second round, 164 organizations were given the chance and financial support to organize, among other things, a school gastronomy club, a sustainability children’s conference, or a green institutional courtyard suitable for experiential learning for children and young adults. The department store chain is excitedly awaiting the applications this time as well, and will reward the most outstanding ones with a special prize.
The third round of Tesco’s “Start for the Future” program is open until November 7 for financial financing of local projects that primarily have a positive impact on children, adolescents, and young people. The community initiative aims to provide funding to institutions and organizations across the country that want to improve the living conditions of people under the age of 25 living in their immediate environment. However, the program also leaves the possibility of funding open to applications serving other good causes, such as animals, the elderly or disadvantaged adults.
“In our program, we not only provide financial assistance, but also an opportunity for communities to shape the future together. The interesting thing about Start for the Future is that we entrust the final decision on the initiatives to be implemented in their living environment to the local people. Customers of our stores can vote for the applications forwarded by the professional jury, which will win 500 thousand, 300 thousand, or 150 thousand forints each in all 60 districts, depending on the order of votes. We have distributed a total of 57 million forints of support nationwide in this way, with the most outstanding ones also receiving special awards. In the second round, nearly 300 applications were received, of which 164 were voted for by customers with nearly 2 million tokens. The recent winners are now have already started implementing their projects, including a sustainability children’s conference, a school gastronomy club, a reading competition aimed at preventing school bullying, or a schoolyard development that provides experiential learning. It is inspiring to see the work of the organizations, and we are confident that this time we can contribute to the implementation of even more diverse community ideas”
– said Nóra Hevesi, Head of Communications at Tesco-Global Zrt.
The “Start for the Future” program provides nearly 1 million forints in support in each of the 60 districts established based on the location of the stores. Applications submitted through the https://tesco.hu/kozosseg/ portal will once again be judged by an independent professional body, which will select the best maximum of 3 projects per district based on the criteria listed in the application document, and the fate of these projects will then be decided by Tesco store customers using the voting tokens they receive when making a purchase.
Tesco is mainly looking for applications from civil society organizations, associations, foundations, social cooperatives; privately owned non-profit SMEs; public education, higher education, social and healthcare institutions; museum and public cultural institutions, institutions providing library services; institutions providing family and child welfare services; condominiums and housing cooperatives; and informal groups in 6 categories: art and culture; education and skills development; community activities and building relationships; environmental and nature protection; physical and mental health; and combating food waste.
More information about the details of the “Start for the Future” program and the application conditions can be found on the https://tesco.hu/kozosseg/ page. Previous winning projects can be viewed on the https://tesco.hu/kozosseg/list-of-projects/ page.
Deadline for submitting applications: November 7, 2025.
