Tesco gives away HUF 57 million worth of tokens to its customers
Between January 20 and February 16, Tesco stores will be offering tokens worth up to several hundred thousand forints after purchases. Customers can use these tokens to decide how much support each entrant will receive in the voting phase of the department store chain’s new application program, “Start for the Future.” Start for the Future replaces Tesco’s previous application program. 176 community initiatives across the country are sharing 57 million forints. Of these, the one that collects the most tokens in all 59 districts will receive 500 thousand, the one that receives the second most votes will receive 300 thousand, and the one in third place will receive 150 thousand forints. In total, three local organizations with special awards can spend an additional 1 million 95 thousand forints on the implementation of their projects.
Last October, Tesco launched its “Start for the Future” application program, which replaced the supermarket chain’s “You Choose, We Help” program, which had been running successfully for eight years. Under “You Choose, We Help,” Tesco helped local communities with more than half a billion forints in 15 rounds between 2016 and 2024 by supporting nearly 2,200 projects in 346 Hungarian settlements. The new initiative primarily provides financial funding for community projects focusing on improving the living conditions of children under 25, adolescents, and young adults, but does not exclude other initiatives that are important to local residents.
“At Tesco, we place great emphasis on giving back as much as possible to the communities where our customers and employees live. We considered it important to continue to involve our customers in the continuation of our application program, which has been running successfully for many years. They know best what kind of projects they would like to see implemented in their local communities. On January 20, we will give them the opportunity to decide, so they can decide in 59 districts on the support of the first, second and third best initiative of 500 thousand, 300 thousand and 150 thousand forints. We are proud that 229 new organizations applied in the first round of the Start for the Future program, and the majority of the applications prioritize professionally sound issues where collaboration and cooperation play a prominent role. We encourage this ourselves, which is why we increased the support amount by a total of 15 million forints”
– said Nóra Hevesi, Head of Communications at Tesco Hungary.
