Hungary manufacturing PMI rises to 52.5 % in March
The rate of the March growth was smaller than in the same month of 2007 (59.0), and equals the increase detected in March 2006.
According to the Hungarian Association
of Logistics, Purchasing and Inventory Management (HALPIM), the
publisher of the index, the PMI rose 1.7 %.
A PMI index figure
above 50 indicates expansion while a figure below 50 shows
contraction in economic activity. The March value shows a smaller
performance improvement than the average of the same month of the
past three years (53.6). The average performance of the January-March
period (53.3) signals a smaller growth than in Q1 2007 (55.8), but is
still 1.0 ppt above the average of the same period of the past three
years (52.3).
Altogether, the March performance of the
manufacturing industry once again showed an accelerated growth and
while the average performance of Q1 also signals growth, it is of a
slower pace than a year earlier.
