The Hungarian National Asset Management Inc. (MNV) has put the former Ministry of Interior building up for auction. The Danube-side property, under monument protection, has a starting price of HUF 50.8 billion and offers potential for hotel or office development.

Located in Budapest’s 5th district, bounded by Széchenyi Square, József Attila Street, Nádor Street, and Mérleg Street, the building complex consists of three separate plots but forms a unified architectural and functional structure. With its classicist and art nouveau features, size, and location, it is considered one of the capital’s most valuable real estate assets.

The property is listed as an office building in the land registry and is classified as a historic monument. It has a private garden, underground parking, full utilities, and is in good condition. It is suitable for conversion into a hotel. The bidding increment is HUF 10 million, and the winning investor could develop one of Hungary’s most exclusive hotels on the site.

Since the starting price exceeds HUF 150 million, the government’s 3% Otthon Start housing loan is not available for its purchase.
