446 kilograms of food products were offered for charity by the exhibitors of the 79th OMÉK
This year, the 79th OMÉK exhibitors also collected food for the benefit of the Hungarian Food Bank Association. Participants of the National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair, which closed at the weekend, were able to offer unused, unopened, mostly durable food left at the end of the exhibition, which the Association will distribute to families in need, to children and elderly homes in the next few days. Thanks to the donations, a total of 446 kilogrammes of food was collected.
It is already a common practice at international food exhibitions to collect food that is still unopened, edible, and send it to people in need. This is the second time OMÉK has joined to the initiative. In Hungary, 1.8 million tons of food is trashed every year, which is nearly one third of all food produced.
