The amount of Christmas food donations at Tesco increased by 44 percent in one year
134 tons of food donations were collected in the non-perishable food collection campaign of the Magyar Élélmiszerbank Egyesület last weekend in Tesco stores, 44 percent more than last year. This is the 14th time that Tesco has joined the campaign, which took place between November 17 and 19, to provide support to those in need during the holiday season with the help of its customers. The value of the donated products exceeds HUF 125 million, of which 20 percent, i.e. HUF 25 million, will be supplemented by the supermarket chain this year as well.
The weekend Christmas food collection campaign of the Magyar Élélmiszerbank Egyesület brought close to record results, to which Tesco customers contributed 134 tons of donated food between November 17 and 19. The campaign took place in 155 Tesco stores across the country, during which 44 percent more donations were collected than the previous year. Most people gave flour, sugar and pasta to the volunteers of the Food Bank, but the donations also included rice, canned meat and ready meals, sauces and dips, biscuits, chocolate, baby food, long-lasting milk or coffee. The most active were the customers of Tesco on Váci út in Budapest, who contributed more than 4.5 tons of food to the total amount. At the same time, proportional to the size of the store, the Tesco supermarket in Szolnok-Szandaszőlős offered the most donations. They are followed by the supermarkets in Albertirsa, Üllő, Kunszentmiklós and Tahitótfalu in the list of the top 5 fundraising stores.
