NAV seized 43,000 fake toy figures at Budapest Airport
More than 43,000 counterfeit toy figures and accessories have been seized by the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) Airport Directorate at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport in recent weeks, the NAV announced.
The counterfeits mainly included Labubu figures known as Pop Mart’s products, but key chains, water bottles, wallets, clothes and other accessories were also found.
The shipments arrived from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Spain. The goods were seized by the tax inspectors and proceedings were initiated for infringement of industrial property rights.
The Labubu figures of the Chinese company Pop Mart, which are conquering the world, have been a huge commercial success: the company’s profit increased by 350 percent in the first half of 2025, mainly due to Labubu sales. However, the popularity of the figures, referred to as the “Furby” of Generation Z, has also encouraged the spread of counterfeits.
In China, authorities are also taking action against imitations: in April, 200,000 replicas were withdrawn from circulation, and in July, another 40,000 were withdrawn. The manufacturer and the authorities have a common goal of protecting the good reputation of the original product and curbing the spread of cheap imitations.
