Live pig imports fell by 42 percent
According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s live pig exports decreased by 3.3 percent to 5,600 tons in January-February 2025 compared to the volume sold on the foreign market in the same period in 2024. Live pig imports fell by 42 percent to 7,300 tons.

The volume of pork sold on the international market did not change significantly (26,000 tons), while its value decreased by 4.4 percent in the observed period. The volume of pork imports fell by 26.2 percent (21.3 thousand tons) and its value by 25.9 percent in the first two months of 2025 compared to the first two months of 2024. The majority of companies and slaughterhouses that are decisive for the EU pig market did not change the purchase price of pigs in the 19th week of 2025 compared to the week before. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 760 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in April 2025, a 9 percent decrease compared to the average price a year earlier.
