Our country has entered the group of climate champion countries with the seventh best result in Europe – this was stated in the latest situation report of the Energy Strategy Institute. Hungary reduced its net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 3.5 percent. In the region, only Romania and Slovakia have seen a more significant reduction in emissions. As a responsible large company, the K&H Group recently planted a forest that will contribute to the absorption of carbon dioxide in the long term in its joint program with the WWF, helping to preserve biodiversity.

The atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has increased to 0.042 percent, which may seem small, but it has a huge impact on the planet’s climate: if it were to reach 0.1 percent, it would be expected to cause a global average temperature increase of 5-6°C compared to pre-industrial levels. This level would already exceed the limits of the adaptive capacity of both natural ecosystems and human societies, and would lead to a series of extreme weather events that could cause serious natural disasters, the institute says in its report. In order to curb global warming, countries around the world – including Hungary – have set ambitious goals: greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by 55 percent by 2030, and climate neutrality must be achieved by 2050.

K&H, the responsible company

For the K&H Group, sustainability is not just a slogan, but a strategy. The role of banks is key in sustainability, as they shape the future of the economy not only by greening their own operations, but also through their financial products.

K&H Group is a leading player in the domestic responsible investment market, managing nearly 1,000 billion forints in its 27 different green funds. This means that every second invested forint is already in a responsible fund with the bank’s fund manager.

K&H’s new corporate green loan placements reached 130 billion forints. In 2024, it disbursed 12 billion forints of green housing loans, which is 6 percent of the total housing loan placements.
