$3 .1 million compensation because of poisened pet food
The company that made contaminated pet food that killed dozens of dogs nationwide in 2005 will pay $3.1 million in a settlement with pet owners.
The pet food, which contained a mold called aflatoxin, was produced at Diamond Pet Foods' plant in South Carolina. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said earlier that the Missouri-based company had no record of test results for 12 shipments of corn three years ago. The corn was tainted with the lethal mold.
