Laurel has been around for 30 years and half a thousand self-service checkouts
Exactly 30 years ago, at the beginning of April 1993, the leading Hungarian retail IT company, Laurel Számítástechnikai Kft., was founded. Over the years, the company, which has come up with many pioneering solutions, has also reached another milestone: 500 of their first fully Hungarian-developed self-service cash registers have now been put into operation in several foreign countries as well as in our country.
At the time, the company dealing with commercial IT started with 14 people, and this number has now increased tenfold. From the very beginning, the company was at the forefront of the rapid adoption of new international achievements affecting the world of stores, and over the years the focus shifted more and more to its own developments tailored to the Hungarian market.
In 2013, Laurel managed to create the first licensed online cash register in Hungary, but they also created the first well-functioning e-toll payment system in Europe. Their self-developed cash register system (Laura) is now used at around 6,000 points, and in recent years they have earned a reputation for their self-service cash registers. The number of their latter devices has roughly doubled in the past year, so that there are now a total of 500 in operation in 11 different store chains and 7 countries.
Thanks to this, the company produced a sales revenue of about HUF 3.77 billion in 2022, which represents a 31% increase compared to the previous year.
