The producer price of apricots decreased by 27 percent
According to KSH data, the apricot crop in Hungary ranged from 11,000 to 25,400 tons in the last five years. In 2023, the frost at the end of March caused serious damage to the plantations, producing 42 percent less apricots (14 thousand tons) than a year earlier. Experts expect an apricot harvest in 2024 that is higher than in 2023, but less than in 2022.
Based on data from the KSH, the export of apricots in Hungary decreased by 70 percent to 500.7 tons in 2023. The largest target market was Austria, where 251 tons of apricots were delivered. The import of fresh apricots (mainly from Spain, Serbia and Italy) increased by 57 percent to 2.72 thousand tons in 2023 compared to the previous year.
According to the data of AKI PÁIR, apricots from Spain and Italy were on offer at the Budapest Wholesale Market in the weeks before the domestic season
This year, domestic apricots entered the market in the 23rd week at a price of HUF 1,150/kilogram. The producer price of domestic apricots decreased by 27 percent to HUF 946/kilogram 2024 24–29. per week compared to the same period in 2023.
