Tesco supported pensioners with HUF 2.6 billion and it is not stopping there
Since April 2022, Tesco has supported pensioners with around HUF 2.6 billion with its pensioner Tuesday promotion, in the framework of which customers with a pensioner’s card and loyalty card received a 5% discount on the total amount of their purchases every Tuesday. At the end of the month, the department store chain will launch another shopping discount program to help pensioners.
Over the past two years, pensioners have taken advantage of the pensioners’ Tuesday discount more than 4.4 million times every Tuesday. In other words: every Hungarian pensioner has used their pensioner’s card to validate their 5% extra discount at Tesco checkouts at least twice.
Although pensioners will be able to benefit from the 5% total discount on June 23, 2024 for the last time, Tesco will launch a new discount program for pensioners in the same month. From June 30, customers of the supermarket chain who have a Clubcard loyalty card and who are of retirement age will receive five times Clubcard points after their purchase, with which they can collect their points, which can be immediately exchanged for HUF, even faster. So, for example, if a retired customer makes a purchase worth HUF 10,000, he will not receive 100 Clubcard points, but will immediately collect five times that amount, 500 Clubcard points. Those pensioners who use their loyalty card with an application can immediately exchange their points for HUF for their next purchase, as the collected points can be exchanged for a HUF 400 coupon every 400 points within the framework of the Clubcard program. That’s why it’s also worth switching to an application, since plastic card users only receive coupons for the collected points in the mail every quarter.
