250 HUF coupons in nearly 200 Tescos = several million HUF worth of handholds for 3,600 children
Those who shop at Tesco with the Ecumenical Aid Organization’s 250-forint donation coupons between May 12 and June 7 can also support the resumption of life of a family with three children raised in an abusive relationship. The charity will use the proceeds from the coupons sold at the checkouts to support the Kapaszkodó program, which gives more than 3,600 children in difficult circumstances a chance for a quality life by providing them with a safe home, developmental activities, experience programs, food, clothing, or even school supplies.
Fatime, a victim of domestic violence, arrived with her three minor children at one of the Ecumenical Aid Organization’s temporary homes for families almost a year ago, which provides temporary care for families who have become homeless due to lifestyle, social, or family crises in order to maintain family unity. The services and skills development offered at the institution gave them a chance to solve their problems and reintegrate into society. The mother quickly got a job as a cleaner, and the children, aged 10, 8 and 4, go to school and kindergarten in a neighboring village. The aid organization is not only helping the troubled family with housing, the support is extremely complex. Thanks to the care, which includes, among other things, psychological and legal counseling, financial awareness education, self-awareness development, as well as physical development for the children, subject tutoring, creative activities and basic IT education, the family members were able to quickly start processing their emotional wounds and regain their mental health, while acquiring useful new skills. All this contributed to the fact that from April this year they were able to start an independent life again in an external location to continue their journey.
The story of Fatime and her children is just one of many difficult fates that could be changed for the better with the help of the Ecumenical Aid Organization’s Kapaszkodó program. The initiative regularly works with more than 3,600 children living in difficult circumstances. Without the organization’s support, these children would not be able to start life with equal opportunities with their peers, and would not be able to access the necessary tools and training for learning or for extracurricular developmental activities.
The Aid Organization organizes an annual fundraising campaign for the Kapaszkodó program, of which Tesco, as one of the main participants, has been supporting the equalization of opportunities for disadvantaged children for 16 years by selling donation coupons available in its stores. This year, until June 7, those who enter Tesco stores can purchase 250 HUF donation coupons available at traditional and self-service checkouts to take part in the charity activity. The amount raised serves as an extra resource for pedagogical and playful developments, community programs, material support, and the organization of experience days and summer camps within the framework of Kapaszkodó.
