Wendy’s may return to Hungary after 23 years
After a twenty-three-year absence, Wendy’s may reappear in Hungary: one of the world’s largest fast-food chains is looking for franchise partners in the country. The goal is to reach 2,000 international units by 2028 – with the Hungarian market also playing a role in this expansion.
As we previously reported, after twenty-three years Wendy’s is preparing to return to Hungary.

The network, which operates more than 7,200 restaurants worldwide, primarily expands through franchise partners, and in recent years has regained momentum in the European markets as well.
In the United Kingdom, Wendy’s already operates 45 outlets, and this year the first restaurant also opened in Romania. Although the exact timing of the Hungarian launch is not yet known, the company has confirmed that it is actively seeking local partners to build and operate new Wendy’s restaurants.
“Wendy’s continues to demonstrate its strength as a global brand, and has set a clear goal of reaching 2,000 international restaurants by 2028. To support this growth, we are actively recruiting franchise partners to build and operate new Wendy’s restaurants in Hungary. We are excited to collaborate with new partners ready to grow with us, and we can’t wait to bring Wendy’s fresh, world-famous food to even more consumers across Europe.”
– the company told Pénzcentrum.
The fast-food chain’s return could spark great interest in the Hungarian market, as the Wendy’s brand has long been known to local consumers, who had already encountered it in earlier decades.
