In Hungary, data collection on antibiotics used for veterinary purposes is also continuously expanding in accordance with EU legislation. Nébih informs those affected that in the case of newly included animal species, the first report on antibiotic treatments in January 2026 must be submitted by February 15, 2026. In 2027, new animal species such as fish, horses, rabbits, small ruminants and waterfowl will also be included in the mandatory EU data reporting scope with data collected in 2026.

Although according to domestic legislation, data collection has been mandatory for all food-producing animals since 2022, the EU regulation introduces the data transmission obligation for member states in stages. While in 2024 we only reported for pigs, cattle, chickens and turkeys, in 2027 data reporting to the European Medicines Agency will be mandatory for fish, horses, rabbits, small ruminants and waterfowl.

In Hungary, the reporting obligation is new only for fish, but it is important to draw attention to the importance of data reporting for other species as well.

The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) will collect antibiotic use data for the extended list of animal species from 1 January 2026. Data reporting is done on a monthly basis, based on breed code, through the Nébih client profile system, and in all cases is the responsibility of the veterinarian who writes the prescription or performs the treatment. Nébih informs those concerned that in the case of newly included animal species, the first report on antibiotic treatments in January 2026 must be submitted by February 15, 2026.
