Lamb Days 2025 was a success: more than 11 thousand guests tasted the special lamb dishes across the country
The Lamb Days were held again on September 20–21, and this year they were a great success. 37 restaurants joined the event, in 11 counties of the country and in Budapest, from the Balaton coast, across the Tiszántúl to the Transdanubian. Guests spent about 50 million forints on lamb dishes during the campaign.
The Lamb Days are an initiative of the Interprofessional Organization for the Sheep and Goat Sector, in cooperation with the Spanish sister organization Interovic, and with the support of the European Union. The aim of the program is to present the versatility of soft and tasty lamb and to encourage the consumption of this extraordinary meat, especially among the younger generation. To bring mutton closer to the public and make lamb consumption independent of the season.
This year’s initiative once again brought spectacular results: over the two days, more than 11 thousand people ate lamb dishes at restaurants. In addition to classic lamb roasts, guests could also taste modern, creative dishes, including pulled meat sandwiches, lamb burgers or even lamb curry, as lamb has a place on the table not only on festive occasions, but also on weekdays. During the event, it is estimated that guests consumed approximately 50 million forints worth of lamb dishes.
“The consumption of sheep and lamb in our country is low compared to the European average, while the potential in the sector is much wider.”
– stated Dr. Dávid Mezőszentgyörgyi, Executive Director of the Sheep and Goat Sectoral Professional Association, then added:
“Our goal is to present meat consumption as a healthy and sustainable alternative, strengthen consumer trust, promote gastronomic diversity and creative uses, and reach out to younger generations with modern communication tools. One of the highlights of this initiative is the Lamb Days.”
However, the campaign is not over yet. The next stop in the program series will be a tasting organized between October 10–12, during which a special Food Truck will offer mouth-watering lamb dishes in and around Budapest. The exact locations of the program will be announced shortly.
