2016 is the year of ransomware
According to Trend Micro, more ransomware infections were reported in the first half of 2016 than in the whole of 2015. 172 percent more attacks took place and USD 3-billion worth of damage was caused to businesses by e-mail scams. 79 new ransomware types were identified in the first six months of the year, and the new and old viruses caused USD 209-million loss to companies. 58 percent of attacks were carried out via e-mail.
