New regulations in poultry-farming from 2012
After 2012, the European Union did not authorize the use of traditional poultry cages. According to the new regulations the base area should be increased by 25 percent and less number of floors can be installed for the cages.
If the new regulations come into force, after 2012, in an average stable 28 thousand animals can be kept, instead of the current 70-72 thousand. This requires several billion HUF investment for the producers and the specific wages and the energy costs can be increased as well. These problems are competitive handicap for domestic poultry producers.
According to the datas of the Central Statistical Offic, more than half of the poultry is still kept domestically – reports Napi Gazdaság.
