The distilleries produced the one-fifth of last year's volume
The country's distilleries produced the one-fifth of last year's volume, only two million liters, after the EU eliminated the tax exemption on cooking earlier this year – index.hu wrote after Magyar Idők.
While for the cooking in 2014 only about 700 HUF had to be paid, this year about 800 HUF more additional alcohol tax occured, so the brewing of a liter of pálinka costs roughly 1,500 HUF, so everyone prefer to cook at home. (index)
