Lidl customers helped with 158 tons of food at the Food Bank’s Christmas sale
An extraordinary collaboration accompanied this year’s Christmas fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Food Bank Association, which Lidl Hungary also joined. Between November 14 and 16, the Food Bank collected non-perishable food in 132 Lidl stores with the help of customers, thanks to which 158 tons were collected in Lidl stores. This amount is 33 percent of the total 479 tons of donations collected during the program, of which the organization will prepare 31,613 5kg food packages.
As a responsible and ethical company, Lidl Hungary pays special attention to social responsibility, and within this framework, it has been helping the lives of local communities for years through its donation program, including by supporting disadvantaged families. That is why the company joined the country’s largest Christmas non-perishable food collection campaign, organized by the Hungarian Food Bank Association.
The goal of the fundraising is to help families in need during the holiday season and the following period. Lidl customers also participated in the initiative, with Christmas donations collected from customers in 132 Lidl stores across the country between November 14 and 16 by volunteers from the Food Bank’s partner organizations. These are then distributed through local organizations to families, the elderly and children in difficult situations. The largest proportion of the food collected was pasta, rice and flour.
A common goal is to provide assistance
“We are extremely proud that our customers have once again proven that they will support a good cause without hesitation if we ask for their help. This is also shown by the fact that 158 tons of non-perishable food were collected in Lidl stores as part of the initiative of the Hungarian Food Bank Association, which will provide assistance to 31,613 people in need during the holidays and make everyday life a little easier. For Lidl, food donations are not only in focus during the holidays, but are an integral part of everyday operations; we regularly support those in need with food donations together with our charitable partner organizations,”
said Dr. Tamás Kaibinger, Head of Corporate Relations at Lidl Hungary.
“There has never been such a large-scale food collection in Hungary as last weekend. It has been proven once again that many small acts of kindness can add up to really big donations, and together we can move mountains: mountains of donations. Everyone who has shown solidarity with fallen people and families in difficult circumstances deserves recognition, whether it is a single Santa Claus chocolate or a full shopping cart. Fortunately, there were many examples of both. We thank you for the donations, and of course we thank the Lidl employees for their attention, who, together with our volunteers, made the assistance so smooth for everyone”
– said András Nagygyörgy, Director of External Relations at the Food Bank.
The Food Bank’s Christmas fundraising campaign took place in 159 settlements in total It took place in 473 stores, with the participation of 8,800 volunteers. A total of 479,000 kilograms of donations were collected as part of the campaign, from which the organization will put together a total of 95,800 packages to bring relief to those in need.
