Tesco closes 14 stores after bomb hoaxes
A number of Tesco stores around the country were closed over the weekend after a series of bomb hoaxes.
Sources at the retail giant said the scare was part of an
attempt at extorting money from the chain through a series of letters sent to
individual stores and police.
The shops were closed on Saturday afternoon, one of Tesco's busiest periods of
the week, on the advice of police. All re-opened on Sunday morning after
extensive checks.
The bomb threat coincided with a day of action by animal rights groups
including Viva who claim the store has been selling live turtles at outlets in
China.
