Children under 14 excluded: new rules in Budapest spas
A new restriction is coming into effect in the capital’s baths: the Rudas and Széchenyi baths will no longer accept guests under the age of 14. Although no official explanation has been given for the measure, the regulations are already noticeably tightening – 24.hu noticed.
It’s already in effect at the Rudas, and it’s coming to the Széchenyi next week
The change was first noticed by 24.hu: a pop-up window on the Rudas bath website states that “The bath is not open to visitors under the age of 14.” The Széchenyi thermal bath is also preparing a similar step: according to their website, children under the age of 14 will not be accepted there from next weekend. The regulations are not published in a separate article or announcement, but in a window that appears on the website, which many guests may only find out when purchasing a ticket.
By the way, children’s tickets can no longer be purchased at Széchenyi, only student tickets – and only if the visitor has a pass purchased in the Budapest Go application and has a Budapest address or student status.
No official answer, questions remain
24.hu sent questions to the Budapest Thermal Baths and Spas Co., Ltd., which operates the baths, but by the time of publication of their article, they had not received an answer as to the reason for excluding children under 14. The decision may be based on safety, hygiene or operational considerations, but no official information has been provided about these so far.
The age limit regulation may raise questions among family visitors, who previously enjoyed visiting the Budapest thermal baths with their children – especially in the summer. It is not yet known whether other Budapest baths will make a similar decision in the near future.
