Miskolc receives 1.29 billion forints in extraordinary government support for the reconstruction of the burned cave bath
Miskolc will receive 1.29 billion forints of extraordinary government support for the first phase of the reconstruction of the burned cave bath – announced József Tóth-Szántai (Fidesz-KDNP-Pont Mi Association), the mayor of the county seat, on his social media page.
The roof structure of the Miskolctapolca cave bath medical center burned down on the night of September 6 last year. The fire broke out on the second floor of the aquatherapy department, which then spread to the roof structure. The nearly thousand square meter main building became unusable, and later the decision on the fire inspection report revealed that “a series of installation errors and the lack of maintenance and standardization review led to the fire.”
In addition to the damage caused to the building, the forced closure of the popular bathing place also caused a serious loss of income in tourism, with the loss estimated at half a billion forints in the last months of last year alone.
The Ministry of National Economy issued a statement about the possibilities of rebuilding the cave bath the week after the fire, stating that the government would provide all possible assistance. The local government also opened a donation account to receive donations.
Last October, Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár announced on the spot that “the government is coming to the aid of the city of Miskolc and is participating in the reconstruction of the cave bath.”
