12 tons of KitKats go missing in transit in Europe, Nestlé fears Easter shortage
Nestlé said a 12-tonnes (413,793 pieces) shipment of KitKats was stolen from a truck from central Italy to Poland, and was scheduled to be shipped to several European countries along the route, Le Monde reported on Telex.
The company warned that the theft could lead to a temporary shortage of products on store shelves before Easter. Nestlé did not say exactly where the vehicle and cargo went missing, only that the truck and chocolate continued to disappear “without a trace”, and that the investigation is ongoing with the authorities and logistics partners.
The company also warned that the goods could also appear on black market channels. According to the information, the products can be tracked using a barcode: when scanned, the system will indicate how to notify the KitKat/Nestlé team.
