Tesco opens 100th store in Turkey
Tesco has 750 stores in Central and Eastern Europe.
Tesco entered into the Turkish market
five years ago. The now opened Kipa store is located in the coastal
town of Yalova and includes elements of a Tesco store such as a focus
on price and range as well as featuring unique elements tailored to
the local market including bakeries producing fresh baklava, a
traditional Turkish sweet. Tesco also operates Express stores in
Turkey and earlier this year opened its first 1,000 square metres
store. Tesco International and IT Director Philip Clarke said:
"Turkey is a really exciting market for Tesco with huge
opportunities for growth. We've built up a strong local business from
a small base and have moved to new areas like Antalya, Bodrum and
Istanbul."
