Starbucks has to pay USD 100 million to its barits
Starbucks has been ordered to pay its Californian baristas back tips that were instead paid to shift supervisors. Starbucks planned to appeal immediately.
The shift supervisors at the coffee
chain have also been issued with an injunction preventing them from
sharing in future tips. The lawsuit was filed in 2004 by a former
barista who complained shift supervisors were sharing in employee
tips. The lawsuit was granted class action status in 2006 and it went
forward for about 100,000 former and current baristas in Starbucks'
California stores.
