Haggenmacher brewery reopens after 100 years
After more than seventy years, the historic Haggenmacher beer brand is coming back to life in Budafok. The brewery’s reopening will be celebrated with a three-day festival in the former brewery building – where Henrik Haggenmacher Sr. started his first factory in 1873 – from September 26th to 28th.
The rebirth of the brand is being celebrated by Wolfgang Bartesch, founder of art quarter budapest (aqb), and three partners. The new Haggenmacher Brewery will start production with a fully automated brewhouse, energy-saving systems and by taking advantage of the cooling advantages of the Budafok cellar system. The range will include affordable lagers, low-alcohol versions and reimagined historical recipes.
The opening festival will feature a Bavarian brass band, contemporary exhibitions and nostalgic barrel tapping. The visual identity and creative concept were developed by aqb artists, so beer and contemporary art appear in close symbiosis within the walls of Budafok’s industrial heritage.
The organizers’ goal is to put Budafok back on the Hungarian beer map – building on both traditions and a communal, progressive approach.
