Trends in the world market of meat and poultry are monitored by the Agricultural Business Research Institute (AKI). Data from the market price information system (PÁIR) of KSH and AKI can be useful for even short term business decisions. The decrease in the price of chicken intended for slaughter has slowed down recently. As a result of a drop in livestock in 2008, a drop of 4 percent is expected in the domestic production of turkey this year. Domestic sales were down by 15 percent in 2008. As a shift is expected in domestic demand towards cheaper poultry products, the prices of higher quality turkey products are expected to stagnate or drop. The price of swine dropped everywhere in the world market except the US in the first months of 2009. US exports of pork are expected to drop by 15 percent this year, compared to 2008. Prices in the EU were down by 5 percent in January, compared to December 2008, but were up by 4 percent compared to January 2008. Production is expected to drop by 4 percent this year.
